Esther Loveridge obtained a BA in Psychology from California State University. She met her husband, Ben, at his Baker Ben’s Donut Shop, and they married and blended their two families from previous marriages. They worked and traveled together and ate out a lot. Eventually, Esther weighed over 280 pounds and suffered from a multitude of ailments, as did Ben. She discovered Dr. John McDougall’s program for a whole food, plant-based lifestyle and her life changed dramatically.

Esther’s Story

We were at the end of our tour of beautiful, green Ireland in May of 2016 when I thought I just could not take another step. My knees and my feet were killing me as I inched my way to the departure gate at the airport for our trip back home. Ben, my husband, went on ahead of me and I felt stranded as I attempted to pull my own suitcase. Somehow, I had been able to keep up with our tour group, but now I just wanted to sit down in the middle of the terminal and “go on strike”.  I wanted to be saved and rescued. Giving up wasn’t an option. Somehow, I mustered enough strength to do what seemed impossible and I made it to the gate on time.
Ben’s Story

When I was young, I suffered from childhood obesity all through school. I was active in sports, and in high school I dieted and exercised. I got down to a normal weight. By the time I was 21 years old, I had bought two donut shops and again, the weight came back. After ten years, I went into business for myself and opened several Baker Ben’s Donut Shops in the Sacramento, CA area. I continued in the donut business for about 20 years. It is amazing that I escaped type 2 diabetes since my father, mother and sister all had it. By working nights, I was able to further my interest in sports by coaching my daughters’ softball and soccer teams.
